British Latvian Association
We had a very good turnout for the Baltic Exchange CD launch last Wednesday. However, the majority of attendees were connected with the music world and not out regular BLA devotees. Therefore, please don’t forget that on Tuesday, February 9th, Geoffrey Swain will give a talk on Latvia entitled:
“We shall have plenty of trouble on our hands from the Balts”: Britain , the Latvian Legation, and the Red Army’s Return to Latvia , autumn 1944
The subject touches areas that Latvians do not always find easy to talk about and so a lively evening is guaranteed!
His profile can be viewed at:
http://www.gla.ac.uk/departments/centralandeasteuropeanstudies/ourstaff/academicstaff/gs/
His key work on Latvia ( Daugavpils during and immediately after the second world war) is:- Between Stalin and Hitler: Class War and Race War on the Dvina, 1940-46 (Routledge-Curzon, September 2004). The hardback edition normally retails at £95 but I obtained my paperback copy for just short of £20 not so long ago!
This event takes place at 6:30pm at the Embassy of Latvia, 45 Nottingham Place , London W1U 5LY
Please reply to irena.hamiltone@mfa,gov.lv or telephone the Embassy at 020 7312 0041
Admission will be £6, which will cover the usual tasty nibbles and fine wines!
